The sand storm
All I see is sand, dirty
orange, that was its color. I breathe it, walk on it, its stuck on my face – in
my eyes and hair. I look like a walking sand statue in this storm, but it doesn’t
matter. I'm just worried that I didn’t find it yet.
Just two faint images struggling in the sand storm, me and someone holding my hand tightly. I can neither see her face nor her body but I know she is a lost little girl. As the struggle continues we finally reach it – or at least I think we did. A small stack of stones, fragment of stone walls and a few planks of wood are still lying around. That’s all that was left, my eyes darkened but I pushed on looking around – searching as far as I can see.
I hear a familiar voice, finally!! Someone survived.
"Quickly bring her here! We have to get her on the last jeep and take her away from here now!" she said grabbing the little girl. I felt her struggling but the woman took her away. A second later I heard the jeep drive off into the distance. "Where did you send her off to? And where is her mother?!"
She replied softly "no one could have saved them… we were too later…"
"But we can! I know we can! So come on lets go, we are wasting valuable time!"
Softly once more she said "we just can't".
Her voice and her already faded figure disappeared into the sand storm. I started to run in every direction trying to recall where the jeep drove off to. All the while, I was thinking: "this isn’t happening! – There must be a way to get to the mother! There has to be!"

I wake up panting and
franticly looking for that jeep – the little girl. But they weren’t there. Taking
a few minutes to catch my breath.
I realize I still have the urge to find them, to help. To find that scared little girl and unite her once again with her mother. Seeing them hugging each other, happily smiling, while both of them are unharmed.

I slowly put my head back on my pillow.
I'm still shocked.
So, I just lay there wondering... and still hoping.
